Acne affects almost everyone at some point in their lives. In our teenage years, 100% of those between the ages of 12 and 17 have at least one acne breakout. Teenage males tend to be the hardest hit. Their acne breakouts last longer, usually more severe, and are more likely to lead to scarring. However, males and females have equal numbers of acne episodes.Acne is not exclusively a phenomenon of our teen years. Adults can have acne into their thirties and beyond. While most acne cases are not serious, in some cases acne can be severe and can result in scarring. About 40% should be treated by a physician.
